Magic of Wood
Wood was my first and remains my most favorite medium for artistic expression. It shines when finely finished and polished. It warms to touch and can be sculpted into any shape you can imagine. If you pay attenton, it will “talk” to you as you work with it, providng subtle hints for your hands and chisels to follow.
Wood reveals its beauty through the patterns of its growth, the muted colors of its sapwood, and the boldness of its inner core - the heartwood. The fragrances released from different woods fills my studio as my plane blade lifts and releases buttery curls of grain. It is sensuous, responsive, suggestive, and infinitely varied. Some of the wood that I use comes from old trees from my own property, which are no longer healthy and have suffered from storm or insect damage.
Wood proves to be a rich, sensuous, constant inspiration for work and play.
