Age of Disposability / Age of Reuse
We are living in the age of disposability - we are literally throwing away pieces of the earth every time we use once and discard any plastic, metal, or glass object. And our consumer-driven economy continues to encourage this callous disregard for the our planet’s basic resources. ' '
We have developed many alternatives to this throw-away behavior. Except for a few classes of plastic materials, most products that we produce have methods and programs capable of collecting, separating, and reprocessing the individual component materials used in fabricating the end-user product.
There is a terrific web site called PersonalCreations.com that has a detailed alphabetically-ordered list of the recycle-ability of 200+ products, items, and materials. The site includes information about what / where / how each of these items may be recycled along with links to many of the entities proving the services.
There are also numerous web sites with information about the recycling options of various types of materials. And many state and local governments have web pages explaining their specific local recycling acceptable-use parameters.
I’ve included a list of some of the well-known web sites for reference.
